Education

Glenns Ferry School District is a small, rural school district in Southwestern Idaho consisting of about 500 students PreK-12 and approximately sixty-two certified and classified instructional staff members. The District is comprised of Glenns Ferry High School (grades 9-12), Glenns Ferry Middle School (grades 6-8), and Glenns Ferry Elementary School (grades PreK-5). All three schools are housed in a single facility complex with three wings dedicated to the individual schools.

Within the District approximately seventy percent of our students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. The demographics of our student population within the district break down as follows: Caucasian (50%), Hispanic (49%), Native American (1%), Special Ed (12%), and LEP (33%).

Teachers

100% of our teachers are considered highly qualified according to the Federal "No Child Left Behind" Act. All teachers are fully certified by the State Department of Education for the subjects they teach.

Small classes with student teacher ratios of:

High School 12.8 to 1

Middle School 15.8 to 1

Elementary School 17.4 to 1

Academic Performance

The teachers and administrators in the District are dedicated to finding and implementing educational practices that will improve the learning and achievement of our students, and they have implemented several significant changes toward that end.

The District has adopted five reform initiatives to improve teaching and learning in the district:

• High Schools That Work (HSTW) adopted in 2002

• Making Middle Grades Work adopted in 2006

• Reading First adopted in 2007

• Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) adopted in 2006

• Teaching with Technology adopted in 2005

High School

The high school offers Professional Technical Education courses in: Agricultural Science and Technology; Industrial Technology; and Business Technology.

Through the Idaho Digital Learning Academy students are able to take online courses during the school day. This program offers many AP, Advanced Placement, and enrichment courses to our students.

Facilities

The schools are housed in a main complex with three wings. There is also a Professional Technical building and computer building with two computer laboratories.

The main facility was built in 1962 with a middle school wing and elementary library added in 1992. The facility is well maintained with major remodels to all the bathrooms and secondary library.

In 2004 a 15-year, $3,100,000 bond was passed that provided a new metal roof system, new electrical upgrades to the classrooms, and new heating and air condition systems for the entire facility. The District has no other indebtedness.
