GLENNS FERRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER
GLENNS FERRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER APRIL 2009 ACTIVITIES UPDATE: It was a very busy couple of months for the Chamber. At the yearly Chamber Banquet Jill Laib and Leslyn Phelps were recognized as Citizens of the Year for Glenns Ferry for 2008. On 4 February the Chamber hosted the Special Olympics Torch Run with the Ceremony at the High School. What a great event that was! Starting in January, the newly organized Three Island Pantry, working with the Idaho Food Bank, began distributing food to the needy families in the area. This is now a monthly program that takes place the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Veterans Memorial Hal beginning at 11:00 AM. During the last distribution over 7000 pounds of food was given to over 100 families. The next Food Bank is scheduled for 28 April. The quarterly Blood Drive on 10 March was very successful with the goal of 35 pints being exceeded by 2 pints. The next blood drive is scheduled for 2 June at the Veterans Memorial Hall from 1 – 6:00 PM. Thanks to members of VFW Post 3646, the Chamber of Commerce building got a face-lift of new log siding on the 7th of March. UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: On Saturday, 4 April, the Glenns Ferry Booster Club will hold its annual fundraiser. Casino Night will be held at the Veterans Hall beginning at 6:00 PM. The gaming tables will open up at 7:00 PM. Tuesday, 7 April will be the monthly Chamber meeting at the Veterans Hall at noon. Please order your lunch from The Stop. The May 5th and June 2nd meetings will again be at the Hall with lunch ordered from Hansons in May and from the Oregon Trail in June. The June meeting is on the same day as the Red Cross Blood. For your information, the third annual invitational baseball/softball tournament hosted by the Glenns Ferry High School teams will be held here on the 16-18 of April. Teams from Malad, New Plymouth, Wells, Nevada, Minico, Filer, Parma and Wendell will participate. As in the past we are encouraging businesses to offer discounts to those involved with the tournament. This not only helps promote the tournament but also encourages participants from out of town to patronize your business. DUES: About 50% of our members still owe their dues for 2009. A notice is in this letter if you owe your dues. If you want to receive your letter by email instead of US mail please give us your email address by sending a response to: vsmith@rtci.net. This will save our Chamber money. PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS: I am honored to be serving as chamber President again. Our Chamber is a circle of talented professionals, business owners and wonderful people that I am blessed to work with. Our vision is to build on the genuine harmony that our community was founded on. There's simplicity of shared purpose and values that is grounded in the joy of living and working in this great little city. Keep it up, it's working! Beck Beckie Critchlow
