GLENNS FERRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER

CHAMBER NEWSLETTER

July 2010

ACTIVITIES UPDATE:  The 4th of July activities and parade were great.  We had a very good crowd.  The annual Bob Mullen Scholarship Golf Tournament was again very successful.  A big thank to everyone who supported this event.

At our last meeting Patti Allen was elected to replace Wayne Rush on our Board of Directors.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:  The Elmore County Fair will be 12-17 July.  Come out and have a good time.

The Chamber Golf Tournament will be Sunday, 8 August.  This is the only fund raising event that the Chamber has during the year, so we need your support.  Hole Sponsorships are $25.00.  The tournament is a 4-person scramble format  - cost $40.00/person.  This includes lunch and refreshments.  Shot gun start at 9:00 AM at Carmelas.  Cash prizes for top 3 net and gross teams.  Contact Dale if you have any questions or would like to sponsor a hole.

The Three Island Celebration is 13-15 August and is in full gear.  Most activities will be in town on the 13th with a chili cook-off and street dance.  On Saturday, 14 August events will include dances, a parade, mountain men contests, free wagon rides, the Prime Time Swingers for entertainment, 5K & 10K runs, a bike race, booths, and more. Activities on Saturday will be at the State Park.  Cost is only $5.00 per car which includes a souvenir button.  Please call the Chamber for information or go to the Glenns Ferry web site.

The August meeting will be at the Opera Theater.  The September meeting will be at the VFW Hall.  Buy your lunch at the Oregon Trail.  Don’t forget the quarterly Red Cross Blood Drive on the 14th of September from 1:00-6:00 pm at the Veterans Hall.

The monthly Food Bank distribution takes place the 4th Tuesday of each month and has been very successful.  We normally distribute food for 450-475 people.  We can always use more volunteers.  Jean is also looking for volunteers for the Visitor’s Center.

DUES:  There are still 20 businesses and individuals who have not paid their 2010 dues yet.  A reminder will be included with this newsletter if you are one of the twenty.

PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS: Well these past three months certainly flew by, probably because there’s been so much going on.  The Bob Mullen Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Winery in June was a tremendous success.  The Red Cross Blood Drive at the VFW Hall on June 1st also went very well.  The goal was 35 donors and by end of day there were 38. It’s great to surpass a goal, but we sure would like to see even greater support and participation for this very important cause.  The fireworks display this 4th of July were spectacular and it was such a gorgeous day to reflect on the sacrifices made past and present to ensure our freedoms and liberties.

Later this month the Bike-and-Build Club will be traveling through Glenns Ferry.   This club raises money to help build and repair homes for the underprivileged.  These volunteers bicycle across country to raise donations and awareness for their charity.  These volunteers certainly believe in their organizations purpose as they have to pay a rather large fee to participate. The Chamber of Commerce will provide lunch for the riders out at the city park.

Plan on participating in the Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble to be held on Saturday August 8th.  Not only is it a fun day of camaraderie and good natured competition, but it’s also one of our biggest fund raisers of the year.

Have a lovely safe summer and make some wonderful memories with family and friends.  I’ll see you at the next Chamber meeting.  We will be discussing plans for the Chamber corner and how to best promote the businesses in our beautiful city.
